Iteris SmartCycle Bike Indicator Wins 2018 BIG Innovation Award
Having officially launched our SmartCycle® Bike Indicator earlier this week, we are pleased to reveal that the device has won the 2018 BIG Innovation Award from the Business Intelligence Group.
Built on our patented SmartCycle solution, which was developed in 2013 to differentiate between bicycles and vehicles, and was the first of its kind, the SmartCycle Bike Indicator is another first.
Leveraging SmartCycle's patented bicycle detection algorithm, the Bike Indicator is a device that mounts onto traffic signals at eye level and tells cyclists waiting at an intersection that they have been detected. This means the cyclist does not need to risk dismounting into a busy road and pressing a button to cross the intersection. It also reassures them that when they do get a green signal it will give them sufficient time to make it across.
"This year's winners show the diversity of innovation and its impact on the economy, our cultures and the world as a whole," said Maria Jimenez, chief operating officer of the Business Intelligence Group.
"We are thrilled to be honoring Iteris as they are leading by example and making real progress on improving the daily lives of so many."
Organizations from across the globe submitted their recent innovations for consideration in the 2018 BIG Innovation Awards. Nominations were then judged by a select group of business leaders and executives who volunteer their time and expertise to score submissions and provide feedback.
